Environment Canada is celebrating the International Year of Biodiversity with a nature contest.

The Nature Matters! contest calls for Canadians between the ages of nine and 35 to submit written or video essays that answer the following question: Why is nature important to you?

Submissions will be broken down into age groups: nine to 13 years; 14-19 and 20-35. One grand prize winner and two runners up will be selected from each age group in each of the two categories- written and video.

Grand prize winners will be invited to attend the grand re-opening of the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa on International Day for Biological Diversity- May 22, 2010.

Winning written and video essays will be displayed in the Biosphère, Environment Canada's environmental museum, in Montreal throughout 2010.

The contest ends on March 14, 2010 and submissions must be made through the Canadian Biodiversity Information Network (CBIN) web site. Essays will be accepted in English and French.
